ABYSA TOPSoccer is a community based soccer program for young athletes with special needs ages 5-18. The emphasis of this program is on development, training, and meaningful participation rather than on competition. TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the USYSA’s mission statement, which is “to foster the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and abilities”. Our goal is to enable these young athletes with disabilities to develop their physical fitness, technical skills, courage and self-esteem, through the joy and excitement of playing soccer.

The program is offered each Fall and Spring. The season is structured to run 7 Sundays although sometimes we will run on Saturday to avoid a Mother’s Day or other holidays. The program is structured in a way that players are assigned a “soccer buddy” and are grouped by age or ability and work through stations on the field with the focus on “High Fun” At the end of the play date their will be in informal scrimmage with those who want to stay and play which will last about 15-20 minutes.

Registration for this program is quick and easy by going to www.abysa.org and on the home page you’ll see a red box labeled SIGN UP NOW. There you will find the link to the Recreation registration for the current season. When registering you’ll be asked for what program you are registering for. Please specify TOPSoccer in the drop down within the registration. Once you register you’ll receive details about the season.

***If you have any questions about playing, coaching, or serving as a soccer buddy for the TOPSoccer program then please contact Shane Weems at 828-299-7277 Ext. 304 or email him at shane@abysa.org.
