Program Descriptions

ABYSA Recreation

ABYSA Recreation Soccer is our largest program. Because the emphasis is on fun and participation, it is the ideal environment for most kids. This program is the entry point for children who are new to the game. Experienced players who desire a more competitive environment should consider our Academy, Challenge, and Classic programs. We use fun games to develop basic skills, such as ball control and dribbling, and to further players’ enjoyment of the game. In the Recreation program, the youngest age groups have both practices and games on Saturdays, while the older groups practice one day a week and play Saturday games.  Click here for more information on our Recreation program.

HFC Academy

The goal of the HFC Academy Program is to provide select Under-9 and Under-10 players with the opportunity for accelerated development in the individual skills that soccer players must have to achieve a higher level of play. It is expected that more U10 players than U9 players will be developmentally ready to benefit from this program; however, both age groups have the opportunity to be selected. U9 and U10 is the golden age of learning for young soccer players, and ABYSA commits its best professional coaching resources to this program as a result.  Click here for more information on our Academy program.

HFC Challenge

The goal of the HFC Challenge Program is to provide players experiencing success at the recreation or academy level an opportunity to develop the individual skills in both the technical and tactical aspects of the game. For those players not involved in our Classic Program (Highland Football Club), the Challenge Training Program offers the best opportunity for players to gain the skills needed to bring their game to a higher level. To accomplish this, we utilize coaches who have significant coaching and playing experience. Many of the Challenge Trainers who work in this program also work in the Highland Football Club, the Classic Division of ABYSAClick here for more information on our Challenge program.

Highland Football Club (ABYSA’s Classic Division)

The goal of the Highland Football Club (HFC) is to provide talented young athletes, who possess a strong interest in soccer training and competition, an environment that will allow them to reach their maximum potential in the sport. We offer the highest level of soccer training available to youth in Western North Carolina and employ the best coaching staff available. The majority of our coaches have played soccer at the collegiate level or higher and hold coaching licenses from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Coaches in the older age groups commonly have collegiate coaching experience.  Click here for more information on our Classic program.

ABYSA Outreach

ABYSA is proud to offer year-round Outreach Programs that provide soccer programming to over 800 under-privileged and under-served youth in the community. ABYSA partners with Asheville Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department, the YWCA, Asheville City Schools Foundation, and Project March’s Children First program. With the help of volunteers and community support, ABYSA offers several outreach programs, such as Go To Goal!, Project Kickstart, and Soccer in the Schools. These rising programs have received only positive feedback, constantly working to fulfill their mission: “to provide children in Asheville and Buncombe County with the health, social, and developmental benefits of youth team sports in an age appropriate and emotionally safe environment.”  Click here for more information on our Outreach programs.

ABYSA Adult Recreation

Our Adult Recreation Program started as an opportunity for parents of ABYSA youth players to have a chance to enjoy the same fun their kids enjoy. It has grown to encompass 3 different seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall) and include players from ages 18-70. The guiding principles of the league are fun, safety, and comraderie, all while trying to keep the league as affordable as possible. If you are interested in a league where making friends is more important than results, and going to work on Monday trumps winning that big tackle, ABYSA Adult Recreation may be just for you!  Click here for more information on our Adult Recreation program.

ABYSA Camps

ABYSA camps are a great place for new players to gain confidence before the start of the next season, and for experienced players to hone skills and take their game to the next level in preparation for the upcoming season. All of our camp programs are designed to be working-parent friendly, providing players with a safe, competitive environment in which to train—with little hassle to parents.  Click here for more information on our camps.
