Former HFC Ladies Players Combine for Goal for Sweet Briar College

SWEET BRIAR, Va. - Defender Ali Lifka (90 HFC Ladies Red) and midfielder Marissa McCord (92 HFC Ladies Red) hooked up for an equalizer in the third minute of play on Wednesday afternoon as Sweet Briar College took on NCAA Div III 9th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College. After conceding a goal in the opening minutes of the game, Vixen Soccer responded with a McCord header off a perfectly placed far post corner kick sent in by Lifka. The Marlins countered with a few quick scores of their own en route to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference win.

Brian Bartels – UNC Asheville Men’s Soccer

UNC Asheville Senior forward Bryan Bartels was named second team Big South All-Conference in a vote by the league’s coaches. Bartels was Asheville’s second leading scorer. The Fairview native has scored five goals with three assists for 13 points. He leads the Bulldogs in shots taken with four. Bartels scored in three consecutive games in early October, including a game-winner in overtime at Radford on Oct. 1
David Shaw – Berry College Men’s Soccer

Berry College forward David Shaw has been named Berry’s Male Athlete of the Week for his performance during the week ending Oct. 16
Shaw, a freshman from Christ School in Asheville, N.C., scored the match-winning goal just less than six minutes into overtime in the Vikings’ 3-2 win over Sewanee Sunday. He was also credited with an assist in the first goal of the match, just two minutes into the contest.
The Vikings have two home matches on the schedule this week. Berry hosts Reinhardt at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, and entertains Bryan Saturday at 1 p.m.
